WHO WE ARE

The Johnson Family on Bailey Island

For over 200 years, the Johnsons have lived, worked and been a part of the community on Bailey Island.   While lobstering was the mainstay, the Johnsons also owned a large boarding house, which took care of visiting residents throughout the summer months. In subsequent years, they rented smaller properties and took care of other’s houses during the winter months. The Johnson family has been managing property on the Harpswell Islands for over three generations.

David Johnson

Owner/Property Manager/Rental Agent

The tradition continues with David Johnson, 61, owner of Safe Harbour Property Management.  He serves as the property manager for twenty summer rentals on Bailey Island, renting them during the summer months and maintaining them throughout the year.  He also takes care of over 70 homes spread throughout Harpswell, Bailey and Orr’s Island. He has been managing and caretaking homes for 30 years and considers himself the eyes, ears and often hands of his clients while they are away from their homes. He provides a wide range of services. But, most importantly, he understands the types of damage that can happen to an unattended house during the harsh Maine winters. He prides himself on maintaining constant vigilance throughout all of his properties and dealing with situations which arise quickly, efficiently and thoroughly.

Family & Community Involvement

David Johnson has lived on Bailey Island his entire life and, like his father before him, believes in serving the community to make it stronger. He and his wife Darla have three grown children and four grandchildren. He has a degree in business from the University of Maine and is passionate about the importance of education. He has served as an elected education official for the past twenty years and is currently the chairman of the board for the Region 10 Technical High School and Co-Chairman of the Building Committee for the new Mt. Ararat High School, both of which serve the local children.

DAVID Johnson, JR.

Family & Community Involvement

David Johnson, Jr. has extensive knowledge in the property management and caretaking field.  He graduated from the University of Maine at Orono with a B.A. in New Media but found his passion in Facility Operations while working for MSAD #75. Starting out as a groundskeeper/maintenance specialist at the local elementary schools he worked his way up to being the Head Groundskeeper at Mount Ararat High School in Topsham, ME. There he built many relationships within the district as well as with vendors and contractors in the area. Working alongside the facilities director, community members and other employees, David played an intricate role in the design, construction, and commissioning of the new Mt. Ararat High School and athletic facilities. Following in his father and grandfather’s footsteps, he is also active in the community and has served on multiple committees and sits on the board of directors for multiple local youth sports organizations. David’s experience has added immense strength to the Safe Harbour team, and we are thankful to have him on board.
